Released WWE Star Teases International Wrestling Return

Released WWE Star Teases International Wrestling Return WWE

Former WWE star Shelton Benjamin has teased his next move in wrestling, indicating that he’s interested in challenging for a notable promotion’s championship.

With Benjamin released during the September 2023 round of WWE cuts, there has been a lot of speculation about what he will do next.

The popular star recently commented on a post from Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH, which listed him as one of the non-Japanese stars who has challenged for the GHC Heavyweight Championship at some point in the title’s existence.

Benjamin stated that while he doesn’t recall wrestling for this title, they could change that.

Replying with a GIF of Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka, Benjamin wrote:

Not sure who made this list but I’ve never challenged for this Title….but we can change that.

Benjamin previously wrestled for Pro Wrestling NOAH between 2015 and 2016, ahead of his WWE return.

While it was a different belt design to the one pictured in the tweet below, Benjamin unsuccessfully challenged for Go Shiozaki’s GHC Heavyweight Championship at NOAH Emerald Spirits In Korakuen in June 2016.

Benjamin went on to sign with WWE in August 2017. He last wrestled at the September 11, 2023 WWE Main Event taping, teaming with Cedric Alexander in a losing effort against Erik & Ivar of the Viking Raiders.

Shelton Benjamin’s first match since leaving WWE was recently announced, which you can read more about right here.
