WWE Releases Statement Regarding Talent Unrest Over Saudi Arabia

WWE has responded to the issues in Saudi Arabia for the second time, having previously said they were “monitoring the situation”.

This time the statement comes in response to widespread reports that, unsurprisingly, the majority of the roster are concerned about WWE going ahead with Crown Jewel and with their own safety in Saudi Arabia.

WWE released the following statement on these reports to Wrestling Inc:

“As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers, as we continue to monitor the situation.”

The statement is very vague, reinforcing the point that they are aware of the problems without committing to anything.

What exactly that means is unclear. As seen on Raw, WWE clearly intends to go ahead with Crown Jewel. Granted, Saudi Arabia was never mentioned, but that hardly matters.

The event is taking place in the country regardless of whether they do or do not promote that fact on television and the roster has a right to be concerned.

With Donald Trump and the Saudi officials seemingly looking to find a compromise by coming up with the least bad excuse for what happened as to retain their lucrative arms relationship, it is almost certain the event will go ahead as planned.

It will be interesting to see whether anything comes out in the coming weeks about specific talent not wanting to travel to the country or whether anyone already advertised gets pulled from the card.

What are your thoughts on WWE running Crown Jewel despite calls for them to cancel? Let us know in the comments.
