WWE Star Believes He Should’ve Main Evented WrestleMania 39 WWE

WWE star Sheamus has argued that the Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania 39 should’ve headlined the event.

Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER defended his gold in a brutal triple threat bout on WrestleMania 39 Sunday, defeating Sheamus and Drew McIntyre to retain his title.

Many fans believed that this match was the best of WWE’s entire WrestleMania 39 weekend. despite it taking place relatively low on the WrestleMania 39 Sunday card.

Speaking on Virgin Media Sports Stories, Sheamus stated that he believes the Intercontinental Title triple threat match should’ve went on last.

Discussing his WWE goals, Sheamus said:

“The IC Title, that’s it. I want to main event WrestleMania too. I want to main event WrestleMania. That’s another one. The IC Title and main event WrestleMania are the two things I want to do.

“I should have main evented WrestleMania last year or this year (2023). It should have gone on last. It stole the show at WrestleMania. Nothing came close, match-wise, the match me, Gunther, and Drew had.

“I knew that was always going to be the case. I was so close (winning the title) at Mania, and it just got taken away from me.”

WrestleMania 39 was ultimately headlined by a WWE Undisputed Universal Championship match, with Cody Rhodes controversially losing to champion Roman Reigns following interference from Solo Sikoa.

Reigns will next defend the gold against LA Knight, Randy Orton and AJ Styles in a fourway bout at Royal Rumble 2024, following the Bloodline interfering in the #1 contenders match on Friday’s (January 5) SmackDown.
