WWE has announced on Twitter that SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan and Rowan will defend against Big E and Xavier Woods of New Day at Extreme Rules.
Bryan and Rowan most recently retained the titles against Heavy Machinery at Stomping Grounds on June 23 in Bryan’s home state of Washington.
Despite losing to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on that very show, New Day recovered by pinning the champions in a 4 vs. 4 elimination match on Raw last week, and then a win in a non-title match against the planet’s champions the next night on SmackDown.
New Day are three-time SmackDown Tag Team Champions, with their most recent reign coming when they beat the Bludgeon Brothers – which Rowan was a part of – the SmackDown after SummerSlam and held the belts for 56 days.
Bryan and Rowan are currently enjoying their first reign with the straps as a team after winning them on the May 7 SmackDown against the Usos following them being vacated by the Hardy Boyz due to Jeff being injured.
Elsewhere on Extreme Rules, New Day member and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will defend his title against Samoa Joe.
