WWE NXT Star Believes It’s His ‘Destiny’ To Face GUNTHER At WrestleMania

Gunther has reigned as the Intercontinental Champion for over 15 months on the WWE main roster, and has still yet to have taken a pinfall defeat during his run.

Gunther also held the NXT United Kingdom Championship for a record setting time, losing the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT Takeover 36.

Speaking on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, Ilja was asked about who from history he would want to face at WrestleMania one day.

Without hesitation, Ilja said:

“It must be Gunther. It must be him. There is no other choice. This is destiny. There is no other match that makes people feel this dimension of emotions that we both can produce, just because we’re directly opposites. There is not one person that has taught me more, not one person that has pushed me more, and there is no one person that I can have a better match with on such a high level as WrestleMania.

“It is impossible because we are the opposites, but we connect and it is something people have never seen before and can reinvent this special thing every time again, especially on a stage like this.”

Ilja is set to challenge Carmelo Hayes for the NXT Championship at NXT No Mercy next weekend.
