WWE Star Says Talent Should Have ‘At Least A Month Off’ Every Year

A WWE SmackDown star and current champion has spoken about his absence due to COVID-19, and says he believes all talent should have time away.

Sami Zayn was out of action from WrestleMania in April until late August because of the pandemic, recapturing the Intercontinental Championship he never actually lost at Clash of Champions in September.

Speaking with BT Sport, Zayn said:

“I tend to tune out. I know it’s not what people want to hear, but when I’m kind of away from wrestling, I like to be away from wrestling. And then it just gives me a chance to miss it, and every now and again I’d watch something and be like, ‘oh man I really miss this’ – I forget how much I like it sometimes. But I think that’s better than being having too much tunnel vision, being too in the bubble or on the hamster wheel and go go go, and not really taking it all in. I think a little bit of space is a great thing. I mean, I don’t run things, but if I did, I’d say it would be great if everybody on the roster had at least a month off every year. Just so that it gives the fans a chance to miss them, or maybe even two months, you know just give fans the time for them to miss them, and to refresh the character, and to refresh our bodies and our minds and everything. We’re obviously being paid to work so I understand not wanting to necessarily give guys two months off but I think it would go a long way for both the performers and the fans, and the for the product.”

Zayn is currently scheduled to face United States Champion Bobby Lashley in a brand vs brand match at Survivor Series on November 22 providing neither of them lose their titles by then.
