WWE had plans to change an iconic part of the CM Punk package, with the star himself slapping the idea down.
The Living Color lead vocalist Corey Glover revealed that during Punk’s 2011 ‘return’ to WWE, there were plans to give him a sound-a-like version of Cult of Personality.
Referring to CM Punk’s departure from the WWE Championship after Money in the Bank in 2011 on the final night of his contract, the Second City Saint would returning later in the year, as can be seen below this news story.
Punk, however, could have made his return with a different entrance theme to what fans are used to hearing, with Glover revealing, on the Drinks with Johnny Podcast, that:
“They had their own music division of the WWE and they were gonna have somebody make up a song that sounded similar to Cult of Personality. But that was gonna be his entrance music.
“[Punk said] ‘No, I don’t want that. I want the real thing.’ He’s like one of the talent that actually got that in his contract that wherever he goes, that goes with him.”
Following his 2011 ‘return’ Punk would remain with the company until 2014 and would not wrestle again until AEW All Out 2021 where he would face Darby Allin.
He made his WWE return at Survivor Series in November 2023, though is currently sidelined through injury.
