Scrapped WWE WrestleMania Championship Match Plans Revealed

Scrapped WWE WrestleMania Championship Match Plans Revealed WWE

Scrapped talks about plans for the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 have now been confirmed.

The WWE Title bout at WrestleMania 35 ended with a wholesome moment, with Kofi Kingston pinning Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) to win the gold.

KofiMania had been running wild ahead of April 2019, with Kingston winning fans over with his performances in that year’s Elimination Chamber match, in addition to the gauntlet bout that took place on SmackDown the week prior.

Kingston was notably a replacement for these two matches, with Mustafa Ali unable to compete due to an injury.

Speaking on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, ‘Road Dogg’ Brian James, who was a WWE head writer at the time, confirmed that Bryan vs Ali was definitely talked about for WrestleMania 35.

He explained:

Yeah, it was talked about (doing Bryan Danielson vs. Mustafa Ali at WrestleMania 35) and that’s probably what they’re referring to with the Daniel Bryan talking about Ali (coming to main roster) and stuff so yeah, there was talk about a storyline leading up to that. But yeah, so there was talk about that.

Neither competitor is with WWE currently, with ‘Bryan Danielson’ leaving the company in May 2021, and signing with AEW that September.

Ali was released by WWE in September 2023, and has been establishing himself outside of WWE in recent weeks.

Mustafa Ali is set to make his debut for another notable promotion, which you can read more about right here.
