A popular WWE star has reflected on a recent lost “once in a career” opportunity in the aftermath of the Friday, April 21 episode of SmackDown.
On the recent episode of WWE SmackDown, GUNTHER defended the Intercontinental Championship against the New Day’s Xavier Woods, highlights of which can be seen below this news story.
Despite the best efforts of Woods, GUNTHER would retain with Woods sharing his thoughts on Twitter after the match:
The intercontinental championship should be with me in the second picture. But it’s not. That means it’s time to work even harder. pic.twitter.com/FKF5PjvJl1

This came after a WWE Digital Exclusive in which Woods said:
“This was my shot. I haven’t had a shot at the Intercontinental Championship since I’ve been here. I got here in 2010. It’s 2023. I had one shot at GUNTHER. I had one shot to become and I failed.
“I didn’t do it. I had no Kofi here, I had no Big E here. We’re all about the power of positivity, but it’s not always easy.
“I don’t know what to do next besides moving forward. But, what is moving forward? I have no idea.
“But, shots like this for me, specifically for guys like me, come once in a career apparently. So, I don’t know if I’ll ever get a shot at that again.
“So, yes, GUNTHER won. Yes, GUNTHER is Intercontinental Champion. I am not. So we go to work.”

Xavier Woods is the only member of New Day who is currently active on the main roster, with Kofi Kingston undergoing surgery on his ankle on March 17 and Big E stating he will “sit down with the doctors” about his next step following his April 2023 scans for a neck injury suffered in March 2022.
It was recently reported by WRKD Wrestling that, once New Day is back, there have been discussions for Woods, Big E and Kingston to feud with Imperium, with the “centerpiece” being Big E versus GUNTHER.
