Young Bucks Reveal When They Found Out Sting Was Joining AEW

AEW Executive Vice Presidents Matt and Nick Jackson have revealed when they first found out that WCW legend Sting was coming to AEW.

Sting’s decision to join the popular promotion has become the talk of the wrestling world in recent weeks. Sting’s recent signing has also seen people recall wrestling history, with Booker T recently talking about The Icon’s reluctance to join WWE in 2001.

Such a huge signing would be difficult to keep secret for long. Matt and Nick Jackson recently revealed that they had known about Sting coming to AEW for ‘a couple of months’ prior to The Icon’s Dynamite debut.

In an interview with Sitting Ringside, The Young Bucks told David Penzer the following:

“We knew for a couple months. It was Tony’s idea. He wasn’t going to do it until he got the thumbs up from all the V.P.s. We were in a room a couple months ago and he told us and immediately we all gave the thumbs up. We were like, hell yeah, that sounds awesome. He was excited. Tony ultimately is a fan. He’s probably the biggest wrestling fan I’ve ever met in my life so him getting to work with a guy like Sting, someone he grew up watching, I could see his eyes light up. We were all Sting fans.”

Many AEW wrestlers have noted that Tony Khan was a huge wrestling fan, even prior to launching the promotion. Hearing about Khan’s excitement, working with a wrestling legend, shows how passionate the AEW president is about the business.

Sting, who has signed a multi-year deal with AEW, will reportedly undertake a variety of roles. No matter what role the WCW star fills, securing Sting was a big win for AEW heading into 2021.
