Young Bucks Reveal Which Major WWE Star Mentored Them On The Indies

AEW Executive Vice Presidents and Tag Team Champions Matt and Nick Jackson noted that WWE star Kevin Owens took the brothers under his wing early in their careers.

In an interview with Fightful, The Young Bucks spoke highly of Owens. Matt Jackson fondly remembers that the former WWE Universal Champion was one of the first independent wrestlers to give them “the rub”.

Here is the quote, courtesy of Ringside News:

“He was one of the guys who took us under his wing in the early days. He saw something special in us and I think he knew we were going to be a part of the new crop of the top indie guys, and he attached himself to us. He’s one of the very first people who gave us a rub. Just being friends with him by association and being involved with him in storylines and having matches with him people immediately accepted that we were cool. We’ll never forget that.”

It seems that Owens and the Jackson brothers’ friendship is still going strong, despite working for rival promotions. Nick Jackson didn’t have a bad word to say about Owens, noting:

“There’s a lot to say. We have such a history with him. We still talk to him to this day. We love him. He’s great!”

Sadly, it’s highly unlikely that The Young Bucks and Owens will share a ring again, at least anytime soon. In 2018, Kevin Owens signed a 5 year WWE contract in 2018, stating that he doesn’t intend to leave WWE once his contract expires.

Even if we never see Matt and Nick Jackson brothers in the same ring as Owens again, it seems like the trio will be friends for life, regardless of where they wrestle.
