Mere hours before it was set to take place tonight on SmackDown Live, the scheduled WWE United States Championship match between defending champ Jeff Hardy and Shinsuke Nakamura has been cancelled.
WWE uploaded the following video to YouTube earlier:
The Japanese star also didn’t compete at last night’s SmackDown Live Event in Bakersfield, California.
As reported by F4WOnline, Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Nakamura was “bit in the leg by a police dog at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield yesterday”.
WWE currently has house shows scheduled to take place in Nakamura’s native country this weekend, but whether he will be able to compete at said shows is currently “uncertain”.
Jeff Hardy will now defend the WWE United States Championship in an open challenge on tonight’s show instead.
