Earlier today, AEW revealed that former WWE, WCW and TNA commentator Tony Schiavone had signed for the new promotion.
This came after it was reported that WWE was interested in bringing the current MLW announcer back into the promotion.
When the news broke, it was assumed that Schiavone would team up with Excalibur and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross to work a three-man commentary booth for AEW.
However, Ryan Satin initially reported that Schiavone will not be doing commentary. Instead, Tony will be part of AEW’s wider broadcast team.
While the Schiavone announcement from AEW is worded to make it sound like Tony is joining the commentary team, I'm told that's not the case. He'll just be on the overall broadcast team. https://t.co/52nVFYUcJm

However, Ryan Satin has since reported that Schiavone may eventually join Jim Ross and Excalibur on commentary for AEW.
AEW wants to get this weekend’s All Out pay-per-view out of the way before they concentrate on their commentary team. However, a reunion with Jim Ross is certainly on the cards for Tony.
UPDATE: Sources say Schiavone may EVENTUALLY join the commentary team. AEW is currently focused on All Out. Tony was previously committed to University of Georgia football on the 31st.
I'm told an eventual reunion w/ JR is likely.
For now, Tony is being used as a utility player
