The truth behind the referee injury during Lacey Evans vs Sonya Deville on last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown has been revealed.
Referee Danilo Anfibio went down before the show went to commercial break, with a medical assistant and fellow official Jessika Carr coming to his aid.
Most people assumed this was a work because the show was pre-taped and it just had that feel to it, and this assumption has now been confirmed as accurate by PWInsider, which wrote:
The update is this – there was no injury. It was a worked deal designed to add a different, unique cliffhanger leading into a commercial break, nothing more. Anfibio is not really injured.
It may have felt a bit weird at the time but it’s not like there was anything wrong with it – good on them for doing something a little bit different, even if it was a bit throwaway.
Evans went on to win the match after Mandy Rose came up on the titantron and distracted Deville, so it seems their program still has some legs to it, which is good to see after their last match just ended with a rollup win for Deville a few weeks ago.
