Orange Cassidy is one of the most polarizing characters in pro wrestling. He doesn’t try and his character has led to significant discourse amongst fans. Some love him, some hate him.
Now, Cassidy has called his character a giant middle finger to pro wrestling. In a recent interview with ESPN, Cassidy spoke about his beginnings in wrestling. Here is the quote:
“I guess it was like 2005 or 2006 when I really tried to start to wrestle, and it didn’t matter, like, you know — I was wrestling as another guy that sucked with long hair. It was one of those things where you like wrestling, so you build a ring in your backyard, and you start to wrestle, and then, you know, no one likes you because you’re a skinny white kid who doesn’t do anything great.”
Cassidy also mentioned the thought process behind his character and who pushed to bring him into AEW.
“If I have to wrestle, I’ll wrestle. It’s not my fault that I’m good at wrestling. It’s like one of those things, you have a job, you’re good at it, but you know, do you really wanna?”
“The Young Bucks were the people that were like, ‘We need to get Orange here.’ Because my character is a giant middle finger to professional wrestling, so they were like, ‘Of course, let’s get him in.'”
Cassidy has stunned fans with his two high-profile performances in AEW. He had his first singles match at Revolution against PAC in one of the highlights of the night and faced Chris Jericho at Fyter Fest in another breakout performance.
