During a recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast, AEW star and Japanese deathmatch legend Luther has revealed that he nearly joined WWE several years ago to be part of a popular act.
Luther spoke to Jericho about how he was on the radar of WWE several years ago. He noted that he thinks the plans would have been to have him and Gangrel form The Brood, an act that later featured Edge and Christian:
“No, but I heard that I was still on [WWE’s] radar because I was told from a couple people a few different things,” Luther recalled. “I was told they were thinking of putting me in a tag team with a guy named Gangrel, because they said we both kind of looked alike, which I actually, to this day, still get people who think I’m Gangrel. So there was talk about me and him doing The Brood thing, and then I lost that job out to two of our friends instead.”
The Brood was formed in 1998, so it’s likely that this is around the time that WWE would have been interested in bringing Luther into the company. Here is no word on if they’ve been interested since.
While he may not have appeared for WWE, Luther (real name Len Olson) did do some work for WCW. He wrestled on a WCW Worldwide taping in August 2000, losing to Vampiro in singles action.
Luther joined AEW last year, reportedly after being recommended to management by his good friend and former AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho. The pair recently were on opposite sides of the ring for a tag team match for Jericho’s 30th-anniversary celebration on Dynamite.
