As we’ve already covered on the site, WWE has changed Matt Riddle to just “Riddle”, and now we have some more news regarding the change.
Riddle’s latest outing was a loss on this past Monday’s Raw to Sheamus in a Survivor Series qualifier, and Fightful Select is reporting that Vince McMahon was very impressed with the match.
It was noted that McMahon was “fired up” about the match (in a good way), and both wrestlers as well as backstage personnel were all positive about it when they got backstage.
McMahon is said to have pitched a “more serious character presentation” to Riddle, which Riddle was supportive of. Riddle himself has now tweeted: “People it’s okay I’ve been called Riddle most my life, I actually prefer it and it’s my real last name”.
Whatever the case and whatever the reasoning, Matt Riddle is now Riddle per the call of Vince McMahon. Judging by the reception on social media, the initial outcry is that the change is ridiculous, but we’ll just have to see what happens in regards to his positioning on TV.
We actually have a tracker here on the site with every WWE name change of 2020, which you can find at this link.
