Following the shocking release of Zelina Vega last week, there has been a lot of talk of wrestlers finally unionizing. This came after the President of the top US labor union reached to Zelina Vega on social media.
SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris even released a statement on the matter, confirming that the labor union is going to be offering its support to wrestlers from any company, not just WWE.
WrestlingNews.co has provided some additional information about the feelings from people within WWE about unionization, and the fears many have that top stars who earning good money will not want to get involved:
WrestlingNews.co has heard that there are others in the company that support unionization but they saw what happened with Vega and realize that a message was sent when she was fired. There is some optimism among some because of SAG-AFTRA’s interest and Yang’s statements but the feeling among many in the company is that some of the top names who are making over $1 million per year are not going to speak up. While AEW is an option for some, there is a realization that they can’t sign everyone from WWE and AEW’s roster is already overcrowded so speaking up right now in favor of unionizing is not seen as a viable option for some of the WWE talent.
This feels like, for the first time in a long time, that unionization within WWE and professional wrestling as a whole could legitimately be on the cards. WrestleTalk.com will keep you posted with any more on the story.
