Shortly after Zelina Vega’s release from WWE last Friday, reliable Twitter source WrestleVotes reported that her real-life husband Aleister Black had asked to move back to NXT, a request that was denied.
SmackDown star Aleister Black was certainly handled best down in NXT. The Dutch wrestler even held the NXT Championship during his time with the black and gold brand in 2018, defeating Andrade to win the belt.
As such it was understandable why Aleister Black, who hasn’t been on TV since being drafted over to SmackDown last month, would want to move back to NXT to try and turn around his fortunes.
However, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has noted that Aleister Black didn’t actually specifically ask to move back to NXT, but did throw around the idea, but no one seemed interested:
There were reports Aleister Black asked to go back to NXT and was turned down. That’s basically true as far as smoke and fire but not exactly true. We were told he didn’t directly ask and get turned down, but he did float the idea around and nobody seemed interested when he did so
