AEW Revolution on Sunday night didn’t end as the promotion would have hoped, with the planned big explosion resulting in nothing more than a fizzle.
This was obviously a botch in the production as opposed to something AEW planned, with Dave Meltzer reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the explosion was tested several times, and worked during the trial runs:
The finish was tested out multiple times, and it worked great every time. Then the time it counted, it didn’t. Anyone who has dealt with pyro knows there are duds, and the wrestlers didn’t have the backup plan.
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega provided Dave Meltzer with the following statement on the matter, noting that it was “deflating” for the explosions to not work despite the extensive preparations that took place during the rehearsals:
“Yeah, it was really deflating to do so much preparation, test the explosions, have them be impressive in the rehearsal, and then have it be something so much different than what was promised,” said Omega. “It made me appreciate everyone who worked hard and did their part even more, though. But like you said, we really wanted to have a good one, and we added real barbed wire to help with the feeling of danger so we really risked a lot. Again, I loved the match, glad we did it, sucks about the finale.”
