Backstage Origins Of Top AEW Character

Backstage Origins Of Top AEW Character

A top AEW star has discussed the inspirations behind their on-screen persona, and who suggested that they turn heel in the first place.

Britt Baker is one of the top competitors in AEW. Her recent Lights Out match with Thunder Rosa made headlines, with fans claiming that this match will be fondly remembered for years to come.

Baker recently discussed the origins of her heel character on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette. Revealing that Kenny Omega encouraged her to turn heel, Baker noted that she worked with Chris Jericho to become as detestable as possible.

She argued that her injury was one of the best things to happen to her wrestling career as it gave her more time to understand her character.

Here is the full quote:

“Yeah, That was Kenny (Omega), that was all Kenny’s idea to turn me heel. I was scared but of course, I was going to do it. I’m not going to say no, but I was nervous. I never had been a heel before. I didn’t know anything about heat. That’s the best thing that ever happened to me, honestly.

“That and getting injured because when I got injured I got to work on my heel promos. Who better to work with than Chris Jericho of all people? It’s like I literally ripped off some of his character from WCW when he was like the role model and the conspiracy victim. So, he helps me so much.”

Baker has picked up some big victories already this year, including a tag team win alongside Maki Itoh at AEW Revolution. Yet to wrestle since her St Patrick’s Day Slam Lights Out match, it will be interesting to see what’s next for Baker.

Baker also revealed that numerous WWE stars reached out to her after her brutal match. You can read about that here.
