Speaking to UPI, AEW President Tony Khan has explained why he didn’t build a virtual arena, like the WWE ThunderDome, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tony Khan revealed that the idea of doing a “video wall” was pitched to him, expressing that it wasn’t something that he wanted to do:
“I didn’t want to have a video wall, and I pushed back when I got pushed to do a video wall. It was a fine idea and WWE did it, but it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I respect it, it’s good and it’s economical, but I wanted to continue to find a way to do the shows for the fans every week. And the fans at Daily’s Place supported us. We built like a wrestling territory having a weekly audience. I’m really proud of that. The fans at Daily’s Place supported us. We built like a wrestling territory having a weekly audience. As Tony Khan noted, with Daily’s Place being an open-air stadium, AEW has been able to have fans at shows for the majority of the pandemic. It was only at Double or Nothing in May that the promotion decided to sell out the arena.
