It’s being reported that, as part of Emi Sakura returning to AEW from Japan, she will be used in a “player-coach” role full-time.
The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that she will still work matches, but will also train wrestlers as well.
This was compared to the role Dustin Rhodes currently has.
Emi Sakura has already trained many successful Japanese female wrestlers throughout her career.
She hasn’t worked an AEW match in the US since December 2019, which was a loss to Big Swole on Dynamite.
She was part of the Japanese half of the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament earlier this year which was taped in Japan, where she beat Veny before losing to Yuka Sakazaki.
