UPDATE: Jim Ross has since addressed the report made by Ringside News.
It has been reported that AEW is expected to transition Jim Ross out of his current role as a full-time announcer soon.
As per Ringside News, Jim Ross will still commentate for major matches and events, but will be used by AEW in “other ways”. Ross is reportedly slated to conduct more backstage and sit-down interviews in the near future.
Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net privately confirmed the report that Ross’ role in the promotion is about to change.
Ringside News noted that an AEW source informed them that While Ross’ role change won’t be immediate, “don’t be surprised if when JR’s existing contract is up, it isn’t renewed for his current role/position/responsibilities.”
In May, Ross noted that after his contract does expire, he’d prefer to sign on with AEW for one year at a time, instead of taking a multi-year offer like he did last time.
Chris Jericho, who currently commentates for Rampage, has always had a lot of praise for Jim Ross, recently calling him the greatest wrestling commentator of all time.
