Bryan Danielson Compares Hangman Page To Stone Cold Steve Austin

Bryan Danielson has spoken about AEW World Champion Hangman Page, comparing the Cowboy to Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Danielson revealed that he has been watching Page for a while, even while he was with WWE. A fan of the AEW World Champion’s brawler style, Danielson argued that Page wrestles similar to the Rattlesnake.

Also pointing out similarities in Page and Austin’s characters, Danielson said:

“Even while I was in WWE, I kept an eye on talent, I watched ‘Hangman’ in Ring of Honor and New Japan. It’s crazy to see how much he’s grown, both from an in-ring perspective and a character perspective.

“I love his updated brawler style of wrestling. To me, he wrestles a modernised version of the way Steve Austin wrestled, and that cowboy persona reminds a lot of people of Steve Austin. But in 2021, you can’t come in and be just like Steve Austin. He’s developed this nuanced cowboy character with a drinking problem.”

At AEW Winter Is Coming, Page and Danielson wrestled to a 60-minute time-limit draw, making their title bout the longest match in the history of AEW. The contest was awarded a 5-star rating in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Tony Khan has provided an update on the AEW World Championship #1 contendership, following the draw.
