Carmelo Hayes issued his first open challenge as NXT North American Champion on tonight’s WWE NXT 2.0.
Hayes has been riding a wave of momentum alongside Trick Williams since Great American Bash. On the August 2 edition of NXT 2.0, Carmelo decided to issue an open challenge for his title.
After the champion said the next person to step in the ring could get a shot, it looked like the challenge would be accepted by Giovanni Vinci.
However, Vinci took too long with his standard photo shoot entrance and Nathan Frazer took advantage by running into the squared circle to accept Melo’s challenge.
The two stars had a competitive contest with the former NXT UK star looking impressive as the challenger.
Frazer appeared to be on the verge of victory after a tope suicida on Hayes, but this caused the North American Champion to collide with Vinci at the commentary table.
This led to Giovanni Vinci pushing Frazer off the top rope and Melo hitting “Nothing But Net” for the win to retain the North American Championship.
Elsewhere on the show, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance won a Four-Way Elimination Match to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.
If you’re in the UK but didn’t manage to get tickets to Clash at the Castle on September 3, WrestleTalk is hosting a watch party at The Joiner on Worship in Shoreditch, London, and we’d love for you to join us! Click here for more details.
