WWE SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett has commented on the possibility of an in-ring return.
Barrett originally joined WWE in 2010 as part of NXT’s first season, with Chris Jericho as his onscreen mentor.
He made his main roster debut as part of The Nexus, before going on to much success in a variety of guises, including Bad News Barrett.
Barrett hasn’t wrestled since before his 2016 WWE release. He notably returned to WWE in August 2020 as an NXT commentator.
When asked on Out of Character with Ryan Satin if he would wrestle again, he said:
“I’ve never ruled out getting back in the ring one day. I won’t say it’s high on my list of priorities. I don’t think I could physically do the full-time grind anymore, more mentally than physically. I think my body could hold up.
“I’m still in very good shape. I keep myself fit. But I think that the grind of doing that job full time for who knows how long would be very difficult for me at this point because I’ve just got other avenues now and other things I enjoy doing, most obviously, the commentary side of things, which I wouldn’t want to give up.”
During his original tenure with WWE, Barrett held the Intercontinental Championship on five occasions, and won the 2015 King of the Ring tournament.
