Shawn Michaels was asked about William Regal during the December 8 pre- NXT Deadline conference call, following recent news about Regal’s status.
During Wednesday’s (December 7) ROH Final Battle call, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that Regal is on his way out of AEW, noting that Regal wanted to return to WWE to work alongside his son, Charlie Dempsey.
Tony Khan’s announcement was referenced in Thursday’s WWE call with Shawn Michaels, with the Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative asked if he has any comments on Regal’s status.
Michaels stated that there wasn’t anything official to announce regarding Regal at the time of the call.
Michaels stated that he has been reading updates about Regal online, rather than being informed about the star’s return internally.
Emphasising that everyone loves Regal, Michaels noted that it would thrill him to have Regal back in NXT, and that hopefully we’ll all know more down the road.
Regal was released by the previous WWE regime in January. He went on to sign with AEW in March, making his debut for the promotion at that month’s Revolution pay-per-view.
Per PWInsider, Regal is expected to start in his new WWE role in the first week of 2023.
Shawn Michaels tells @JonAlba that right now there's nothing official to announce for William Regal, but they all love him and what he means to the company. Nothing would thrill him more. He claims he's been reading what we put out there instead of finding out directly
