Rocky Romero has discussed Tony Khan’s reaction to WWE and NJPW’s working relationship, with Karl Anderson wrestling for both promotions.
While Anderson is currently with WWE, he currently holds the NEVER Openweight Championship. He won the gold in June 2022, before returning to WWE that October.
Anderson most recently defended the gold against Hikuleo on December 14, retaining the title to the surprise of many.
NJPW notably has had a working relationship with AEW since early 2021, with the two promotions notably holding a AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door crossover show in June.
Speaking with Fightful Select (subscription required), Rocky Romero noted that he frequently speaks with AEW President Tony Khan.
Revealing that it was his job to tell Khan what was happening with WWE and NJPW working together, Romero stated that Khan ‘isn’t shy’ about asking questions, but understood why it was all happening and is cool about it.
Karl Anderson will next defend his gold against Tama Tonga at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.
Several AEW stars will also be in action at the Tokyo Dome show, including Kenny Omega, who will challenge for Will Ospreay’s IWGP US Title, and Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler of FTR, who will defend their IWGP Tag Team Championship against Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi.
