AEW Star Wins Infamous Championship

AEW Star Wins Infamous Championship AEW

AEW star Penelope Ford is now the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion, following her title win during this weekend’s show.

During Saturday’s (February 18) DDT Pro Wrestling show in Nagoya, Japan, Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford were in the backstage interview area when they were passed by the now-former champion, Saki Akai.

Sabian distracted Akai with a conversation, before Ford rolled her up to pin her for the gold.

If you’re unfamiliar with the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship, similar to the now-defunct WWE 24/7 Championship, title changes can happen anytime, anywhere, as long as a referee is there to count the fall.

Since the title’s introduction in the year 2000, almost 400 humans have held the gold.

I make the ‘human’ distinction as there have been 44 inanimate objects/animals that have held the gold.

Animals that have been DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion include Bunny the cat and Yatchan the monkey, who was the first animal to win the title, in 2004.

Inanimate objects that have metaphorically raised the title include a ladder, the Young Bucks’ ‘Killing the Business’ autobiography, and Vince McMahon’s Hall of Fame star.

Prior to Ford’s win, Akai had held the gold for 88 days.

Ford last wrestled for AEW on the February 15 edition of Dynamite, competing in a threeway bout against Britt Baker and Ruby Soho.
