New Japan Pro Wrestling has confirmed that Mercedes Moné has suffered an injury. Find out what details were revealed by the promotion.
In a press release on their website, NJPW provided an update on Mercedes Moné after reports that she was injured during at the recent NJPW Resurgence event.
Per NJPW:
“During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle.
“Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment.
“New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery.”
While news of a confirmed injury are unfortunate, it is hard to not be encouraged by the statement referencing “an injury to her right ankle” in lieu of initial reports that speculated her ankle was ‘broken’ during the match.
Mercedes Moné was injured during the final match of a one night tournament to determine the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion.
AEW and ROH star Willow Nightingale picked up the victory to become the first holder of the title.
