There was a big title change on tonight’s edition of WWE Raw (July 17) after an injured champ elected to go on with the match.
After a backstage altercation earlier in the night saw Rhea Ripley from the Judgment Day get into verbal exchange with WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez that turned physical, the champs were a bit down and out.
With Raquel Rodriguez notably experiencing a knee injury in the melee, in a backstage segment with Adam Pearce and a trainer, the medical staff wanted Raquel to get examined, but admitted she was technically cleared and she decided to compete.
As the champs insisted on proceeding with the match, Adam Pearce went along with the decision and the champs went on to defend their belts against Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville.
In the match, Raquel Rodriguez continued to favor her injured knee which played into the the match and specifically the finish.
Sonya Deville was able to pull Rodriguez off the ring apron to prevent a tag from Morgan, and Chelsea Green hit a third Unpretty-Her on Liv Morgan to secure the pinfall victory.
Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions!
The plan for SummerSlam is Rhea Ripley defending her WWE Women’s World Championship against Raquel Rodriguez, and the fact that Ripley is the one who caused Rodriguez’s injury in the first place will play into that match being made.
