Rick Boogs was one of a number of WWE stars released on November 21, 2023, and has revealed details of his non-compete clause.
Boogs signed with WWE in October 2017 and last competed in the Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam on August 5, 2023.
On his own YouTube channel, Boogs, real name Eric Bugenhagen, revealed details of his non-compete clause, saying:
“I know people are like, ‘You’re not in WWE anymore, let’s talk about it.’ I can’t, guys. I’m technically still under contract for three months.
“My birthday is December 21 and as a birthday present, I’m free from my contract, basically.
“My birthday, December 21, that’s when I’m free from my contract. Until then, I’m still under contract.”
As a general rule, main roster contracted talents are subject to 90-day non-compete clauses when they’re released, while NXT contracted talents are subject to 30 days.
However, there can always be individual exceptions to those rules based on the nature/reason for the release, or even just terms negotiated into specific people’s contracts.
Since his release, Bugenhagen has claimed that a “political powerplay” was the cause of his release and that one person had a “weird grudge” against him in WWE.
Bugenhagen also shared the belief that the removal of Vince McMahon from creative “killed” his career.
