There has been a backstage update on Jinder Mahal’s World Heavyweight Championship plans following his match with Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins on WWE Raw.
In the main event of what proved to be a chaotic edition of Raw for WWE, Rollins successfully defended his coveted championship against the Modern Day Maharaja; knocking off the former WWE Champion with a single curb stomp.
While the match seemed like an absolute foregone conclusion when initially announced, Mahal’s rise in momentum and popularity in the week that followed, made some fans believe that Triple H may capitalise and pull the trigger on a shock title change.
As well as Mahal winning, another prevailing rumor making the rounds online was that Damian Priest would be finally cashing-in his Money in the Bank contract on the winner of the match.
In the end however, despite both outcomes being teased, neither ultimately came true as Rollins walked out of Little Rock still champion.
But was Mahal or Priest ever truly considered to dethrone Rollins on Monday night?
Well, according to Fightful Select the answer is no; reporting that there was “never consideration given” to Mahal or Priest winning the World Heavyweight Title from Rollins on Raw.
While WWE’s plans look set to include Rollins as world champion heading into WrestleMania season, there is some real doubt on whether that will come to fruition due to reports of the Visionary suffering a knee injury during the latter stages of the Raw main event.
