In the midst of his current run as a top player on the WWE Raw roster, an update has emerged on Drew McIntyre’s status with the company.
In recent weeks, McIntyre has been in the mix with the likes of World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, establishing him as one of the big names to look for in the Royal Rumble this weekend.
McIntyre’s WWE deal would have originally come to an end at the start of this year, but due to time added onto it to make up for absences last year, it now runs through WrestleMania 40 in early April.
Per a new report from PWInsider Elite (via WrestleOps), McIntyre still hasn’t signed a new deal, so, as things stand, he would be a free agent right after WrestleMania.
Of course there are still a couple of months to get things in place, but so far, “nothing has changed” regarding his contract situation.
The report noted that, under Endeavor, WWE has been handling contract negotiations in the order they were due to expire, although it wasn’t specifically mentioned where exactly Drew McIntyre is on that list.
McIntyre picked up the win in the main event of Raw just last night (January 22) over Money in the Bank holder Damian Priest after distractions caused by R-Truth.
McIntyre is one of seven confirmed entrants for the Royal Rumble match along with Priest, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Gunther, Bobby Lashley and Shinsuke Nakamura.
