Major wrestling free agent Kazuchika Okada is reportedly set to choose signing with WWE over joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
When Okada announced he was departing NJPW, it was always going to be a race between WWE and AEW to get his signature.
And right now, it seems that WWE is in the lead.
As reported by Monthly Puroresu, a source close to Okada says he is WWE bound.
An extra detail was that he could possibly be starting his run in NXT, despite the success and name he’s built in NJPW.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer had recently reported that AEW would likely offer more money than WWE, but WWE could offer the grander stage to perform on, which might be more important to Okada than the money.
Kazuchika Okada is a four-time NJPW G1 tournament winner, and a seven-time IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
UPDATE: According to Fightful Select, the above report appears to be “premature”. We’ll keep you posted with any further updates and confirmation.
