WWE may be planning to ground it’s TV product with “stronger realism” going forward according to a new report.
With long-time head of production Kevin Dunn’s departing after 40-years as well as the blockbuster announcement of streaming giant Netflix securing the broadcasting rights of WWE Raw from 2025 – it’s safe to say that this year has already been one of change for the company.
Now, in a new report from PWInsider Elite (via Wrestlingnews.co) we may now know of another shift that has actually already begun in recent weeks of WWE programming.
According to the report there has been talk both at WWE Raw and at the company’s headquarters of implementing more “sports-centric elements” into the on-screen product going forward.
An example of this was given from this week’s Raw (January 22):
“Cody Rhodes being interviewed on RAW ‘earlier today’ complete with the clock listing the time was an example given of trying to root the product in stronger realism. We are told that interviews will reflect this as well.”
Other examples that fall in line with this change in approach from previous weeks of WWE TV include Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate’s conversation in a coffee shop on SmackDown as well as the confrontation between Kayden Carter & Katana Chance and Chelsea Green & Piper Niven in a nightclub on Raw.
