WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has fired a shot at the term forbidden door, arguing that terms like that are “stupid and silly”.
The term “forbidden door” has been closely tied to the idea of signed wrestlers competing for other promotions in recent years.
While the phrase was originally coined by NJPW’s Hiroshi Tanahashi, who teased opening the forbidden door and wrestling for AEW in late-2019, AEW has pretty much adopted the term, with the promotion hosting Forbidden Door crossover pay-per-views in 2022 and 2023.
WWE has been exploring more interpromotional relationships under the Triple H regime, with TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace notably competing in Saturday’s Royal Rumble match.
Triple H addressed her appearance during the post-show press conference, where he appeared to throw shade on “forbidden door”.
After thanking TNA for allowing Grace to compete in the Rumble and noting that it’s exciting that WWE is able to branch out, Triple H said:
“It’s exciting to just be able to branch out. I’m not gonna use all the cliched terms about what door people go through or anything like that because it’s stupid and silly.”

In addition to Grace visiting WWE, the company has approved of a number of cross promotional visits, with NXT’s Charlie Dempsey recently competing for AJPW.
Interestingly, the women’s Royal Rumble featured the return of Naomi, who recently finished up with TNA after dropping the TNA Knockouts Title to Grace.
Naomi has now broken her silence on her WWE return, which you can read more about right here.
