7. Thunderdome idiots
It’s fair to say that WWE’s introduction of the ThunderDome has brought much needed life back to what has been a very strange year for wrestling. The lack of fans was really starting to affect fans’ home viewing experiences, so the idea to stream fans live into the arena was a genuinely brilliant idea.
Unfortunately, as with most things in life, some people just can’t help being idiots, and it was only a matter of time before things were shown on screens that really shouldn’t have been.
While I won’t go into a full list, we’ve seen images of Chris Benoit and of the KKK being shown on screens, because some people just want to remind everyone that they’re a terrible person, so well done you.
6. Shinsuke Cancer (September 14, Raw)
You may have noticed that “Chaos Backstage In WWE” has been a pretty common headline on this here website, and that’s because, and you won’t believe this, but there’s been quite a lot of chaos backstage in WWE this year.
This point was proved on the September 14 episode of Raw, during a segment featuring Raw tag champs The Street Profits and the then SmackDown tag champs, Cesaro and Nakamura.
Now, the Street Profits catchphrase as we all know is “we want the smoke”, and whether this was a simple case of Shinsuke botching a line or some poor taste in his script, he said “If they want smoke, they will get cancer.”
Now I don’t think I really have to go into why this line was deemed inappropriate, especially as it wasn’t all that long after Roman Reigns returned to the company having undergone treatment for Leukaemia, but yeah, not great.
According to reports which came out after the show, it seems the line was supposed to be removed from the taping, but an unfortunate video editor happened to forget.
5. 9/11 champion (October 19, Raw Talk)
And speaking of inappropriate, here’s Charly Caruso with the biggest Freudian Slip since Sigmund Freud went ice skating.
During an episode of Raw talk featuring R-Truth, Charly Caruso thought it would be fun to list off Truth’s list of accomplishments, which included the ludicrous amount of times he’s been the 24/7 Champion. Now if you watch Raw, you’ll know that Truth sometimes also calls himself the 7/11 champion, because comedy, so Kayla no doubt wanted a piece of the action.
However, what came out of her mouth instead was “9/11 champion”.
Yeah. Probably best to avoid that one going forwards, Kayla.
