10 Roman Reigns Matches You Have To Watch

7. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar – Fastlane 2016

This is a match that has largely been forgotten about since it happened. Roman Reigns was heading towards a WrestleMania match with Triple H in 2016 but first he needed to earn his title shot. This has probably been swept under the rug by WWE because of how the audience reacted to everything that happened in the match.

Ambrose was incredibly popular and fans wanted to see him win. As would be the case for much of his WWE career, the fans did not get their wish. Reigns was roundly booed when he pinned Ambrose but that does not change the fact that this was a highly entertaining bout.

6. Roman Reigns vs. Cesaro – Raw (November 16, 2015)

Roman Reigns had yet to really come into his own as a performer when the WWE Championship tournament started in 2015. Reigns needed the help of some experienced workers to really mature and become a great worker himself. Who better to give him a fantastic match on Raw than Cesaro.

During a year when John Cena stole the show on Raw more often than not, this was one of the year’s best matches. Cesaro and Reigns had a tremendously fun mean-guy match. Reigns won, of course, but it was matches like this that allowed Reigns to accelerate his growth as a wrestler.

5. The Shield vs. Evolution – Extreme Rules 2014

This match and the one that followed it were the Shield’s swan song. They went out on top in a pair of matches that spanned a generation. At Extreme Rules, they faced Evolution. When you think of guys like Randy Orton, Triple H, and Batista you do not often think of fast-paced action. The exceptions to those rules seem to be when they get in the ring with guys from this current generation.

This was such a fun match, made all the more worthwhile by the Shield’s strong win. It set up all three men going forward as they would go their separate ways a month later.

4. Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens – Royal Rumble 2017

WWE really was in love with their Shark Cage stipulation for a while. This was despite it never working too. Oh well. At the Royal Rumble in 2017, Roman Reigns challenged Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship with Chris Jericho locked in a cage above the ring. This was just insanity. It was also a No DQ match so these guys took full advantage of that.

Owens was thrown onto a horrific pile of chairs, Reigns was hit with Brass Knuckles, and finally Braun Strowman cost Reigns the match. On a show that also featured a fantastic John Cena vs. AJ Styles match, this was the crazy, weapons-filled fight of a great show.
