10 Wrestlers Who Didn’t Fit Great Factions

7. Jimmy Garvin – The Fabulous Freebirds

Now before any Jimmy Garvin fans come out of the woodworks to lunge for my throat, this is not regarding any of the Freebirds’ golden years. They were one of the best factions of all time and drew a ton of money, but by the time 1989 rolled around, and The Freebirds found themselves in Crockett Country, they weren’t drawing money anymore.

Granted there’s a few reasons for that, Terry Gordy was primarily working in Japan and Buddy Roberts had stayed in World Class Championship Wrestling before retiring from the ring. What was left was the duo of Michael Hayes, the freest of all birds but not a strong worker in the ring, and Jimmy Garvin, who had to be the star of the show to make up for it. Nothing against Jimmy Garvin, he was a talented performer, but when you think of the Fabulous Freebirds you think of riots against the Von Erichs with Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts and Michael Hayes cutting promos.

Garvin got much longer and tried to work a more dominant style but as a 5’10 guy in 1989 it was a hard sell. If you’re driving home and you ask your mom to stop for Fabulous Freebirds and she says we have the Freebirds at home, this was the Freebirds at home.
