10 WWE Stars Who Had A Great 2020

7. Io Shirai

Io Shirai is the best women’s wrestler in the world. I said it and I will stick by it.

When Io turned on Candice LeRae last July, there was so much buzz for the needed heel turn. With great performances at Takeover Toronto and WarGames, Shirai proved she should be at the top of the Women’s Division. As this year came around, she quietly turned face and went on to beat both Charlotte and Rhea Ripley to win the NXT Women’s Championship.

While this match did nothing for either of the other two competitors, it was Io’s time. She’s continued having great matches against anyone she’s faced and has solidified herself as one of the best wrestlers.

We have also got to reference the best WarGames spot in recent memory. No not Io’s moonsault off the cage, but her dive off the cage with a bin over her head. Who thought of this spot? She is the best.

6. All Members of the Hurt Business

This time last year Bobby Lashley was dating Lana, Cedric Alexander was a jobber, Shelton Benjamin was nowhere to be seen and MVP wasn’t even signed to WWE. Fast forward to now and The Hurt Business is one of the coolest stables in wrestling.

Similar to Alexa Bliss, if you would’ve told me last year an MVP return would be amazing, I wouldn’t believe it. MVP is one of (if not the) best promos on the entire roster and manages to put over any match or superstar so strongly. Lashley has become the most dominant and protected superstar with a US Title reign of 106 days+. While Benjamin and Alexander have gone from jobbers to an exciting fresh tag team.

All four of these men are such good wrestlers, so it is with great delight that they have improved so much. Let’s just hope they don’t get suddenly split up like many other stables and teams.

5. Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks has been at the top of whatever Women’s Division she’s in since 2015. She’s charismatic, likable while also able to be detestable and a fantastic wrestler. Compared to previous years on the main roster, it really seems the company is behind her and wanting to push her.

The Golden Role Models alongside Asuka and Drew McIntyre have carried the company during this pandemic for me. The heel work of both Banks and Bayley was beyond funny and gave me something to look forward to on any of WWE’s brands. Facing Asuka felt exciting, a match against Io Shirai was mouth-watering, and the possibility of either woman turning made it captivating.

When Sasha finally beat Bayley in an incredible Hell in a Cell match, it felt great. It felt like she finally got her spotlight. She has improved so much as an all-round superstar, and I’m just hoping for a lengthy title reign.

4. Jey Uso

Who would’ve thought Jey Uso would be on this list? Certainly not me. But here we are… Jey Uso and Roman Reigns have killed it on SmackDown. After a long, boring, dragged out Braun Strowman Universal Title Reign, Roman getting that title was much needed. But this is not about Roman, it’s about Jey.

If we look back to July, Jey was hosting a karaoke competition in the Women’s Division. Therefore, when Jey won a Fatal-Four-Way to earn a shot against Roman, we had no idea this long term story would be told. The Samoan heritage and relationship between the two have made for one of the best storylines in all of wrestling. Uso’s desperation for Reigns’ honour and acknowledgment is so complex and is beyond comparison to karaoke hosting.

Similar to other entries on this list, who knows where this will go. However, I have trust in Roman, Jey and Paul Heyman to further this to the best of their ability.
