3. Drew McIntyre
So many superstars on this list have had character changes, but there is none like Drew McIntyre. From being apart of the Three Man Band alongside Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal to now being WWE Champion, Drew is getting what he deserves. While feuds against the likes of Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton have had their issues, Drew makes it work. His ability to speak so freely on the microphone makes any match he’s involved in a must-watch.
From the ‘Chosen One’ to being the ‘Scottish Psychopath’, McIntyre deserves this spot more than most. Let’s hope for a lengthy title reign with no Miz and Morrison, and an even better 2021.
2. Bayley
DING DONG. Bayley has to be the most improved woman this year.
Like so many others, Bayley’s main roster run was nowhere near her NXT one. She was portrayed as a literal 6-year-old who hugs people and is too afraid to fight. This was not the Bayley people cried and screamed for at Takeover: Respect.
It was essential and inevitable that Bayley would need some sort of character change. The initial turn into emo Bayley last October was good. The short hair worked and the destruction of the Bayley Buddies was great but something was missing.
As Sasha Banks’ and Bayley’s team grew into The Golden Role Models, this was where Bayley became a star. Whether it was the catchphrases, the insults, or the relationship with Michael Cole, she became the highlight of WWE. When the pandemic began, Banks and Bayley took this within their stride and outperformed everyone every week. They shone on RAW, NXT and SmackDown, and soon became Bayley-Dos-Straps, a character we didn’t know we needed.
While I would’ve had the Role Models break up for WrestleMania, Bayley’s current feud against Bianca Belair is a great use of her star power.
1. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns. Smiling, baby-face, pushed to the moon, Roman Reigns. What a difference.
When it was announced Roman would be facing Goldberg at Wrestlemania, like others, I groaned. Yes, Spear vs. Spear is exciting, but Roman getting ‘the torch’ passed down again… who cares? That’s why when Roman returned alongside Paul Heyman, with no vest and a changed attitude, people started to care.
‘The Head of the Table’ is possibly the most talked-about thing every single week. Whether it’s the slow build with Jey Uso, possible feuds with Kevin Owens and Daniel Bryan, Roman is carrying the WWE. Some way, somehow, Vince listened to the fans and changed the ‘Big Dog’ to what he is now. Please, Vince, don’t give us Reigns vs Goldberg again… please.
