It was a big night for WWE SmackDown in Mexico City for top stars like CM Punk, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, Chelsea Green and Rey Fenix.

Whether you were grabbing a snack or sneaking a bathroom break, the show was so full of surprises there are some you may have missed.

Here are 5 things you may have missed on tonight’s WWE SmackDown September 11, 2026.

5. Sami Zayn’s First Challenger Is Already Set

You may not realize even before Sami Zayn’s surprise victory on WWE SmackDown to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship, his first title defense was already locked in.

While Zayn was able to best CM Punk to become a 2x Undisputed WWE Champion, his next opponent had already secured the opportunity.

After putting the pressure on Gargano on last week’s edition of WWE SmackDown in which Johnny Gargano had a shot at the WWE Championship against CM Punk, this week saw the tables turned.

Before Zayn’s history making win, turnabout was fair play as Gargano convinced Zayn to give him the first shot at the title should he emerge victorious from Mexico City.

4. The Viper Is On The Hunt

On tonight’s WWE SmackDown (September 11), Randy Orton made it clear that he was moving on from his feud with Cody Rhodes.

Being clear about his intention to bust the current tie with Triple H as a 14x WWE Champion, Orton will be chasing his 15th WWE Championship.

Whether he will end up targeting Sami Zayn as the brand new WWE Undisputed Champion or someone else in the near future remains to be seen but The Viper’s intention is clear,

3. Tiffany Stratton Takes a Shot For Chelsea Green

Although she had to compete in a protective mask, Chelsea Green was still able to successfully defend her WWE Women’s Championship in a bout against Nia Jax.

While the assist could go to Tiffany Stratton after the star provided some much needed support at ringside.

Shoving Green out of harms way and eating a vicious forearm from Lash Legend for her good deed, Stratton gave the defending Interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green.

Potentially alluding to a future tag team battle between the two pairs or more intriguingly, a future fall out between Green and Stratton — there are plenty of opportunities for big storylines to come from these dynamics.

2. Ricky Saints May Hold A Grudge

With a big opportunity in Mexico City, Ricky Saints had a chance to capture his first main roster title,

However, after going on to lose the bout against Rey Fenix on WWE SmackDown, after the match he was less than gracious.

Perhaps signaling that there is an on-going feud between the two on the horizon, it might be that Saints isn’t done with Rey Fenix just yet as after the bout the continued to touch his teeth.

1. Future For Damian Priest Is Uncertain

After taking on the War Raiders (Erik and Ivar) in a bid for the AAA World Tag Team Championship, the team of Damian Priest and R-Truth shockingly fell apart.

With Damian Priest attacking R-Truth after the match, it could be that the former WWE Champion in well underway to turning heel.

However with the move able to be explained away through any number of means (like the character’s frustration about being teamed instead of chasing singles glory for instance), the specific direction for Priest’s future in WWE remains a mystery.
