7 Biggest Takeaways From WWE SummerSlam 2021

4. Charlotte Flair Wins RAW Women’s Championship… Again

*Wooos in tears*

Again. Really?! This just hammers down the statement that WWE don’t make new stars and when they do, they simply just drop the ball to go back to one of their larger investments.

Nikki A.S.H. was a role model, inspiration to young girls around the World, and bound to be a HUGE merchandise seller. How does making her lose every week give any credibility to living up to her dreams?

Don’t get me wrong, the match used the triple threat formula to its advantage. Lots of three-way maneuvers and Nikki, Charlotte and Ripley bounced off each other tremendously.

But none of that matters as the Money In The Bank victory was a whole waste of time.

Charlotte is on her way to overcoming her father’s 16 championship record and it will surely be here sooner than we all think.

5. Edge Defeats Seth Rollins

Now is the best time to talk about the bright light on this SummerSlam event. Seth Rollins vs. Edge could’ve been the star performance on hype alone. Just being able to see this dream match deliver in the ways we all hoped it would was very satisfying.

The match began with the outta nowhere Brood throwback. Edge’s entrance began with the eery intensity that it had back in the Attitude Era and then nicely transitioned to “You think you know me?!” to electrify the crowd in only a way Edge can.

Edge and Rollins went all out in their bout. Edge wrestled like he was a decade younger. Slick spear through the ropes. Twisting neckbreaker from the top rope! He also sold a devastating superplex into a Falcon Arrow combination.

The match is definitely worth a watch and to top it all off the right man won. I’m very excited to see who is next for the Rated R Superstar to face on this fantasy run.

6. Bobby Lashley Puts Goldberg’s Son In The Hurt Lock

Lashley vs. Goldberg took a very different approach compared to previous Goldberg marches.

Instead of being a one-sided mauling from The Icon, this match was physical and saw both Goldberg and the WWE Champion ragdoll one another. It was slightly sloppy but probably the longest Goldberg match we have seen.

The match ended due to ref stoppage as Lashley worked on Goldberg’s leg for too long. This then resulted in Goldberg’s son trying to save his father from a vicious post-match beat down only to be put in a Hurt Lock by the hands of the WWE Champion.

As much as this post-match angle looked epic, it probably means a rematch will take place at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Yawn. That probably means Goldberg will be WWE Champion before the year is out.

7. Brock Lesnar Returns To Challenge Roman Reigns

Finally, let’s discuss the main event of Roman Reigns vs. John Cena. This match was fully built around the severity of Reigns being beaten by a leverage pin, leading to Cena’s 17th Title Reign.

This was big match John at his best with huge move after huge move, near fall after near fall. Reigns and Cena had the entire audience shocked with each ref countage. A match with epic proportions.

Nevertheless, the added stipulation of Reigns leaving WWE if Cena beat him was highly unnecessary and commentary barely sparked the idea throughout the match.

It was an intriguing thing to add so late in the game but nope, this match had other plans.

Once Reigns came out of this huge fight victorious, those plans came to fruition in the shape of a jacked cowboy known as the Beast Incarnate.

Brock Lesnar had a stare-off with Reigns leaving the crowd in a state of excitement and Heyman may have peed his pants. It’ll be very interesting to see how the advocate will factor into this feud.

Additionally, Lesnar seems to be working face. It’ll be interesting to see if it works on TV.

We probably still have a bit of time until Heyman’s pets go to war though as it is likely the match is saved for Saudi Arabia in October.

It won’t be surprising to see an overlooked Finn Balor evoke his revenge on the Tribal Chief next month as the Prince is all over the Extreme Rules teaser and poster.
