Five Predictions For The WWE Draft

Five Predictions For The WWE Draft

With the WWE Draft commencing on the October 11th edition of SmackDown on FOX, it’s time to start putting some predictions together what might go down.

WWE have been adamant that after the draft, superstars will become brand exclusive… We’ll see how long that lasts.

With this draft and the move to FOX, hopefully there will be a significant bump in interest for both Raw and SmackDown, and this draft is a great way to try to generate that interest.

From there it’s up to WWE to try to keep that interest going forward, but the opportunity to do so is definitely there.

5. Paul Heyman And Eric Bischoff Will Take Part

It has been said that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff will not take have any kind on-screen authority figure roles.

However, if they don’t have some part in this draft, I don’t know how else it would be presented. Would it be like years past where wrestlers just show up on either show and just go “yeah, they’re here now”?

It would make much more sense and give a real-life element to the presentation of the draft to have Heyman and Bischoff in charge of their respective brands, possibly each having their own “war room” that they would make picks out of.

4. A Woman Will Be Drafted First Overall

If one of the goals for WWE moving to FOX is to try to recapture lapsed fans, I think one way to help that would be to show how different WWE is now than they were many years ago.

Having a woman be the first overall pick would certainly show that, and would put a spotlight on the women’s division.

As far as who that would be, I would like to see Becky Lynch going to SmackDown as the first pick. With Becky Lynch defending the Raw Women’s Championship at Hell in a Cell against Sasha Banks, the opportunity is there to have her drop the title and make the move over to SmackDown.

It could easily be one of the other four horsewomen though. I could even see a possibility of the first four picks being Becky, Bayley, Sasha, and Charlotte

3. Sonya Deville And Mandy Rose Will Be Split

After being beaten multiple times for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships by Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss, there is really no need for Sonya and Mandy to continue teaming together.

It is clear that at this point there are no plans to do anything with them as a tag team.

Sonya Deville could be a breakout star coming out of this draft if she is split away from Mandy and given a chance to stand on her own.

Moving Sonya to Raw and giving her a big singles push would be ideal. And Mandy Rose will also be fine on her own, because she is blonde.

2. NXT Will Take Part

This will work both ways. Guys could be moved from NXT to Raw or SmackDown, and guys on Raw or SmackDown will be moved to NXT.

With the big stage being set on this draft, I think it would be a shame if NXT did not take part of it in some way to shine some light on what they will be doing on USA.

As far as guys that could be moved from NXT to Raw or SmackDown, I could certainly see Johnny Gargano, Velveteen Dream, and Shayna Baszler making that move. All three have done a lot in NXT and could certainly benefit from the move.

And as far as moving from Raw or SmackDown to NXT, guys like Cesaro, EC3, Asuka and Kairi Sane could benefit from going back to NXT.

1. The New Day Will Be Split

Now, I know this comes up all the time with everyone waiting for the great Big E heel turn, but that’s not exactly what I mean.

Since WrestleMania, we’ve seen Kofi rise to success as WWE Champion on his own. Maybe it’s time for Big E or Xavier Woods to be given that same chance.

Doing this does not mean that New Day will be disbanded, you can still have two of them on one show as a tag team, while having the other on the other show as single.

The point is, I think New Day need to evolve in some way, because as great as they are, we’ve seen them do everything they can do as trio. Let’s have Big E or Xavier Woods move to Raw and see what they can do on their own.
