Popularity levels slowly improved thanks to the Shield reunion but waned quickly when it became clear Reigns was headlining WrestleMania again. One of WWE‘s most consistent big match performers but the promotion’s wonky booking did not help his cause. Surprisingly failed to dethrone Universal champ Brock Lesnar at ‘Mania or Greatest Royal Rumble. Eventually got the job done at SummerSlam to a tepid response. Reigns was forced to take a leave of absence from WWE in October when he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
