WWE/AEW/TNA/NJPW
Back in November 2025, WWE’s Sheamus was sidelined thanks to a serious shoulder injury that required surgery.
While most fans were anticipating his in-ring return, on Sunday, July 5, it was instead revealed that Sheamus was set to leave WWE, with his departure from the company being confirmed shortly afterwards.
This opens the door for “The Celtic Warrior” to head in a number of different directions following his lengthy run in WWE.
Here are six potential Sheamus plans after WWE departure.
6. Signing With AEW

Sheamus won five WWE Tag Team Championships with Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro) as The Bar
When most WWE stars leave the company, a lot of fans believe that particular name will show up in All Elite Wrestling.
Sheamus has long been recognized as someone who would fit the in-house style that AEW offers to the fans.
Considering that he was known for delivering banger after banger, Sheamus would feel right at home working with the talented roster currently under the AEW banner.
From reuniting with Claudio Castagnoli to recreate The Bar tag team to going at it with the likes of Will Ospreay, Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher, it should feel like a no-brainer to sign Sheamus to AEW when he is officially available.
5. Heading To TNA Wrestling

Several former WWE stars have found themselves in TNA already in 2026
Over the past few years, there have been a vast amount of former WWE stars who made the decision to sign with TNA Wrestling following their run with the company.
Whether it be Mustafa Ali, AJ Francis or Lei Ying Lee, these talents have garnered a second lease on life in wrestling by going to TNA.
Sheamus’ departure from WWE could see him joining this list of stars and going on to TNA Wrestling in the near future.
Considering all of his accomplishments in WWE, Sheamus feels like someone who could instantly be presented as a top star in TNA from day one.
4. Going To Japan To Work In NJPW

Sheamus’ hard-hitting in-ring style could make him a natural fit for a move to Japan
Another promotion that Sheamus’ style would feel right at home for has to be New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Throughout his career, Sheamus has drawn comparisons to a number of names that have been on the NJPW roster.
With many fans wanting to see him compete in the G1 Climax tournament, Sheamus could prove himself alongside the best workers in the business today.
“The Celtic Warrior” heading to NJPW would see him take up the role of top gaijin and work with the top talent, such as Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi, Yuya Uemura and Zack Sabre Jr.
3. Retiring From The Business

Sheamus hasn’t wrestled since the November 17, 2025 episode of WWE Raw
Sheamus has been wrestling for WWE since 2007 from his time on the developmental scene to the main roster.
Over the past two decades, Sheamus has proven himself time and time again as someone who has crafted a WWE Hall of Fame resumè.
The former four-time WWE World Champion has made more than enough money the past 19 years and could see his career as complete.
After a memorable run with WWE, Sheamus could make the decision to call it up a career and decide to retire following his departure from the company.
2. Eventually Returning To WWE

Sheamus is only missing the Intercontinental Championship from his WWE trophy cabinet
Some WWE stars leave the company with no intention of going elsewhere, feeling like the promotion is the “end all, be all.”
From Braun Strowman to Bray Wyatt, there have been quite a few names who decided to wait until WWE came back around to re-sign them.
Sheamus could see any other promotion as beneath him after spending the past two decades in WWE.
Wanting to wait on the company to call him back, Sheamus could take some time off and eventually return to WWE somewhere down the line.
1. Freelancer World Tour

Sheamus competed primarily on the Irish and UK independent scene prior to signing with WWE in 2007
While there are plenty of interesting promotions Sheamus can sign with, there might be much more intriguing options for the former WWE Champion to explore.
Considering his experience with WWE and spending over 20 years in the wrestling business, Sheamus might want to travel the world and not be tied down any longer.
Sheamus could want to check off certain things on his goals list and maybe that is working in different promotions to end his career.
From heading to Japan or Mexico to returning to the European independent scene, there are some different and unique routes for Sheamus to go down with all the options at his fingertips following this WWE departure.
