No Cass = Better Match

The build for MITB has been more glorious than Bobby Roode at a truck stop with George Michael. It’s been more epic than Peter Jackson remaking a New Hope. It’s been more fantastic than a picnic with Christopher Eccleston and Reed Richards. And this week’s SmackDown Live will be no different as Daniel Bryan and Jeff Hardy both get a second chance at qualifying for this year’s MITB ladder match. Well, a chance to qualify for a qualifying match anyway. It’s all very complicated and scientific. The United States Champion will face ‘D-Bry’ tonight with the winner going on the face Samoa Joe next week for an entry into the match.

As far as prizes go, getting to fight Samoa Joe is right up there with a gift card for a free circumcision and the director’s cut, Blu-Ray, special edition of One Night in Chyna. In other words: things that will scar you for life.

A match is a result of an injury to Big Cass during a recent live show. A bout between these two violently passionate men could be an instant classic given the proper time to evolve the match. With WWE‘s track record for giving us dream matches, expect a Dusty finish that attempts to save face for both men. Expect it to end with Joe interfering and forcing a triple threat match next week.

There’s a few odd things about this match:

  1. Why is Jeff going after the MITB contract instead of focusing on his US Championship? If he doesn’t care about it, then why should we? We saw how well it worked to have Seth say he cared more about the Intercontinental Title. Why is that not being done here?
  2. Why do they keep having tag teams like Breezango cut selfie videos about getting into the MITB match, yet they aren’t given one qualifying match while these guys get a second shot at it?
  3. Who is Byron Saxton?
