3. PAC
PAC is one of the top talents in the promotion and the world for that matter. Any title that gets put on him will see the benefit of fantastic matches and in today’s era match quality is of the utmost importance. PAC recently joined forces with the Lucha Bros. to form the Death Triangle and they could also stand to gain from having a title to defend and work around.
There hasn’t been much of a reason given for PAC to associate with the Lucha Bros. yet besides being three nasty heels. Having the title on their leader could give them a purpose on television and give PAC the opportunity to have more incredible matches.
2. Lance Archer
A man who has yet to make his AEW debut, Lance Archer could be the perfect man to hold this title for storyline purposes. Archer wants to fight Cody but Cody is largely uninterested. If AEW runs with the story of Cody wanting the TNT Championship, what better way to get to this match than to have Archer become the inaugural champion and Cody challenge him?
Archer is being treated as a big deal. He has had a very creative vignette and Jake Roberts has been brought in to be his manager. These things wouldn’t be done if AEW didn’t have plans for him and those plans could easily involve their shiny new title.
1. Cody
Here it is, the top candidate to be your TNT Champion, Cody. If Cody is going to maintain his stipulation of never challenging for the AEW World Championship again, he will need something to fight for at some point. Enter the TNT Championship. Cody could build an association with the title the same way Rob Van Dam did with the ECW TV Title and Shinsuke Nakamura did with the IWGP Intercontinental Title, simply by treating this new championship as the biggest prize in the promotion to him.
It also goes without saying that he continues to have the best matches and cut the best promos of his career, which helps a lot. He may not be the first champion but I would be shocked if Cody is not linked with this title in the near future.
